Explaining the Ozone Standard Averages

· EPA’s National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) for Ozone is 0.075 parts per million (ppm)

· The Ozone Standard is calculated by averaging data over a three year time period. This average is taken from the fourth highest (8-hr average) at each monitor. A violation occurs when the 3-year average is greater than 0.075 ppm.

· The monitor with the highest 3-year average defines an area’s ‘Design Value’. Tulsa’s Design Value (2006, 2007, 2008) is currently the North monitor with a 0.078 ppm ozone Design Value.
